It is better to start an acquaintance with the fantastic architecture of the city from any of the accommodations. Most of the Munich hotels are placed among the beauty of the city. Munich is known for its bridges, most of them were destroyed during the terrible flood. Today, they are reconstructed and have a fascinating appearance, lined with stones and gracefully elevated over the river. A famous bridge Luitpoldbrucke is decorated with the allegorical statues of areas that are the parts of Bavaria.
Ludwigsbrucke is the oldest bridge in Munich. From this bridge, in the park on a river island, is visible a fountain «Vaterrhein-Brunnen» (1897-1903). It was created to adorn the city of Strasbourg, but in 1932, it was moved to Munich. There are upper Street Hochstrasse, lower Street Gebsattelstrasse, Overpass and pedestrian stairs linking these two streets.
Right away after the bridge, stands an obelisk "Angel of Peace”, it is Friedensengel. 38 meters of tower is set on a square pedestal, and is decorated with the mosaics and allegorical sculptures. The column is crowned by a golden figure of an angel, a replica of the goddess Nike of Paionios.
There is plenty of monuments, buildings, squares and parks of the different ages. They are of various shapes, sizes and colors. Being in Munich, is like to find yourself on another planet.
